Keynotes on the future of the platform economy
On Monday, 15 June, from 5 to 6 pm, Professor Hemant Bhargava reviews two decades of platform thinking, analysing successes, harms and unresolved power issues. The business informatics expert from the University of California, Davis, is one of the world’s leading scholars in the field of technology management. The lecture will take place at the Redoute in Passau.
On Tuesday, 16 June, from 9 am to 10 am, Dr Tawfik Jelassi presents approaches to global governance mechanisms. Jelassi is the Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information at UNESCO. The lecture takes place at the IT Centre, Innstraße 43, at the University of Passau, as does the subsequent panel discussion on the regulation of the platform economy. Joining the two keynote speakers on the panel will be Professor Carolin Häussler (University of Passau/EFI Commission) and Dr Lukas Wiewiorra (Scientific Institute for Infrastructure and Communication Services). The session is hosted by Professor Jan Krämer (University of Passau/CERRE Brussels).
Equal footing with leading international researchers
The two-day conference offers insights into the latest research topics in the field of platform economics through parallel sessions. Across a total of 18 presentations, early-career researchers have the opportunity to present their work and receive feedback and constructive criticism from the research community, particularly from experienced researchers.
The DFG Research Training Group 2720 “Digital Platform Ecosystems” (DPE) is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). It is the world’s largest research group focusing on the platform economy and thus shapes the University of Passau’s established research area “Digital Platforms”. The “DPE Forum” conference is the group’s flagship public event. “The ‘DPE Forum’ is unique: Here, early-career researchers discuss the most pressing issues in the platform economy on an equal footing with leading international researchers,” says Professor Andreas König, spokesperson for the Research Training Group.
The event will take place at the IT Centre, Innstraße 43, at the University of Passau, as well as at the Redoute, Gottfried-Schäffer-Straße 2. The conference is held in English.
