Soft Smart Particles: Preparation and Applications

The workshop aims to introduce the latest scientific results on soft stimuli-sensitive particles (i.e. microgels) and their preparation to the audience and to initiate discussion on possible industrial applications of soft smart particles.

Soft smart particles are soft stimuli-sensitive particles, which are able to alter their properties in response to environmental stimuli. Even a small change in environmental parameters (e.g. temperature, pH, ionic strength, pressure) or a chemical reaction is sufficient to induce change in properties and behavior of the soft smart particles. This intelligent ability of soft smart particles to interact with the environment makes them attractive for various applications. So for example microscopic polymer gel particles (microgels) with tunable swallowing and surface properties allow for controlled uptake, transport or release of small molecules and can be applied as nanoreactors in catalysis, platforms for tissue engineering or drug delivery systems in medical care.
Furthermore, the modification of soft smart particles with specific physical, chemical or biological functionalities and/or construction of particles with complex architectures (i.e. core-shell architectures) allow for design of soft particles with desired properties, tailored to the specific requirements of individual application. This opens the perspective for application of soft smart particles in the new industrial fields.
The aim of this industry workshop is to present to the audience the latest scientific results on soft smart particles and to forward exchange of opinions and discussions between academia and industry on the industrial perspective
of the soft smart particles.

Hilfe
