International symposium "Art in Motion" explores motivation from a multidisciplinary perspective

Maren Rose Abteilung Kommunikation

Motivation is a valuable commodity in the world after the Corona Lockdowns and their aftermath. Reason enough to make "motivation" the topic of the international digital symposium "Art in Motion", which will take place for the 8th time on 2nd and 3rd June 2023 at the University of Music and Theatre Munich (HMTM), initiated and conceptualized by Prof. Dr. Adina Mornell. The symposium will bring together perspectives from music, sport, neuroscience, psychology and entrepreneurship. Registration for the conference is now open.

Motivation is a rare and valuable commodity in the post Corona-lockdown world. Reason enough to make motivation the theme of the 8th international digital Symposium »Art in Motion«, which will take place on June 2nd and 3rd, 2023, hosted by the University of Music and Theatre Munich (HMTM). This event, initiated and conceptualized by Prof. Dr. Adina Mornell, will encompass nine lectures, eight workshops, four moderated interviews and panel discussions, one poster session and a livestream musical event. All of these presentations will combine different perspectives on the theme of motivation, drawing from music, sports, neuroscience, psychology, and entrepreneurship. The conference language is English, and registration is now open.

Over two full days, the symposium will explore different approaches to the topic of »motivation« with international guests. Keynotes by psychologist and musician Chia-Jung Tsay and the neurobiologist Michael Nehls are two of many highlights of this interdisciplinary conference. Through live interviews with the self-made multi-millionaire Mark Cuban and the judo world champion Anna-Maria Wagner, as well as during a podium discussion with Holger Geschwindner, best-known as the coach of basketball start Dirk Nowitzki, will focus on innovative motivation strategies.

The symposium »Art in Motion« will capitalize on the advantages of its digital format: All participants will have an opportunity to meet each other, talk to the moderators, take part in networking sessions and chat rooms, and ask their questions in real time – across all borders. Through online competitions and during special, so-called »Snacktivities«, short intermediate happenings, everyone will have a chance to play an active role in the conference. To facilitate mutual understanding and communication, a bilingual programme book – in English and German – will be published and sent to participants in advance.

In 2023 »Art in Motion« also has several cooperation partners: including Prof. Dr. med. Matthias Echternach as well as Dr. med. Andreas Winkelmann from the University Hospital Munich of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU).

»Art in Motion« was launched in 2008 and has taken place almost every two years since then, with one exception due to the outbreak of the Corona pandemic. These symposia aim to promote conversations between scientists and scholars from diverse disciplines, identify their similarities, and offer opportunities to all to learn from one another. Inclusion and equity are at the heart of the programming, especially by supporting young researchers, as evidenced by the overwhelming number of students among participants at past events.
