Der Glockenturm der Kathedrale von Split, ein weithin sichtbares Wahrzeichen, entstand, nachdem ein mongolisches Heer im Jahre 1242 vergeblich versucht hatte, die Stadt zu erobern und den König von Ungarn und Kroatien gefangen zu nehmen. Der Vortrag geht der Frage nach, inwiefern der Turm als Denkmal kommunaler Repräsentation aufzufassen sei, und versucht, seine Bauherrschaft zu benennen.
