Think.Design.Build – Type, Typology and Typogenesis in Architecture

Type, Typology, and Typogenesis in Architecture will address the process of type formation in terms of theory (think), project (design), and practice (build).

Against the backdrop of rising Web 2.0 technologies and new forms of communication, whose permanent innovation sweeps up all areas of society and culture, we witness once again questions of typology, however, on a new, conceptual level. The all-pervasive mediatization of everyday life, the densification of cities, and the necessity to build within existing environments lead to a greater differentiation of life and work patterns and, as a result, to accelerated processes of type formation. Historically, typology is a deeply modern concern, whose beginnings go back way beyond the 18th century, into the Renaissance. Today, in contrast, type formation seems to be less of an evolutionary optimization process than a process of disruptive-revolutionary reinterpretation.
