In Mathe lernen wir Kurvendiskussion und das Lösen quadratischer Gleichungen. Warum? Wer quadratische Gleichungen lösen kann, fi ndet die Antwort auf viele Fragen des Alltags. Sie dienen beispielsweise zur Lösung komplexer Probleme, etwa in der Statistik oder bei der Optimierung von Daten. Und sie sind Grundlage der Algebra, einer wunderschönen und nützlichen mathematischen Disziplin, die am Max-Planck-Institut für Mathematik in den Naturwissenschaften zur Untersuchung unterschiedlichster mathematischer Fragestellungen angewandt wird.
