Im Frühjahr 2017 erwarb die Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin eine einzigartige Sammlung: die Prinzessinnenbibliothek. Aufgebaut von drei Generationen – Sophie Dorothea von Hannover (1687–1757), Königin von Preußen und Mutter Friedrichs des Großen, ihrer Tochter Luise Ulrike von Preußen (1720–1782), später Königin von Schweden, und der Enkelin Sofia Albertina (1753–1829), Prinzessin von Schweden.
Im Rahmen einer besonderen Abendveranstaltung besteht die Möglichkeit, die Prinzessinnen und ihre Bücher näher kennenzulernen. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Lesung und deutsche Uraufführung einer Handschrift aus der Prinzessinnenbibliothek. Das Drama "Die edelmütige Äbtissin", 1820 von einer Frau verfasst, ist mit seinen Gedanken zu Emanzipation und Flüchtlingen überraschend zeitgenössisch und aktuell. Zum Text und zur Bibliothek diskutieren Prof. Dr. Ralph Tuchtenhagen (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Prof. Dr. Otto Fischer (Universität Uppsala), Dr. Silke Trojahn (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin) und Dr. Christine von Brühl (Autorin). Abgerundet wird der Abend durch die Darbietung von Musik, die damals erklang.
