Das GWZO veranstaltet den zweiten interdisziplinären Austausch des neu gegründeten sächsischen Projektverbundes »Multiple Transformationen: Gesellschaftliche Erfahrung und kultureller Wandel in Ostdeutschland und Ostmitteleuropa vor und nach 1989«. Die Teilnehmer des Workshops werden dem Wandel der Kulturfinanzierung und Kunstförderung in der Transformationszeit in drei regionalen Untersuchungsfeldern nachgehen: in Sachsen, in den neuen Bundesländern und in der Großregion Ostmitteleuropa. Der gemeinsame Ausgangspunkt ist, dass in allen diesen Ländern in den vorherigen Jahrzehnten der Staat Kunst und Kultur nach strengen ideologischen Kriterien gefördert und reguliert hatte. Folglich brach nach der Wende mit den jeweiligen staatlichen Strukturen auch die kulturelle Infrastruktur zusammen. Dieses Vakuum eröffnete jedoch Chancen, die in der ostmitteleuropäischen Region von einigen wichtigen internationalen Förderern ergriffen wurden. Diese Akteure waren (und sind) aber in der Ex-DDR nicht tätig; ostdeutsche Einrichtungen fallen nun unter die bundesdeutsche Kulturfinanzierung. Einzelne Sektionen des Workshops werden erörtern, welche Akteure und Körperschaften die Nach-Wende Nischen des »arts management« besetzt haben. Diskutiert wird ferner, welche Ähnlichkeiten die Transformation der kulturellen Infrastruktur in Osteuropa und Ostdeutschland aufweist.
GWZO hosts the second interdisciplinary encounter of the recently launched networked project »Multiple Transformations: Social Experience and Cultural Change in East Germany and East-Central Europe before and after 1989«. Workshop participants will investigate the shifts in cultural financing in the period of transformation in three regions: Saxony, in the new federal states and in East-Central Europe. The common denominator is that in all these countries the state had promoted and controlled art and culture according to strict ideological criteria in previous decades. As a result, the cultural infrastructure collapsed together with the state after 1989. This vacuum nevertheless opened up opportunities that were seized by some major international sponsors in the East-Central European region. These agents have not been active, however, in the ex-GDR; East German institutions gradually became integral parts of the Federal German cultural funding scheme. The aim of the workshop is to explore which actors and institutional bodies have occupied the post-socialist niches of »arts management«. To what extent does the adjustment of cultural infrastructure show similarities in post-socialist East Germany and in other East European societies?
