Am 28. November 1930 wurde in München das Südost-Institut eröffnet. Das Leibniz-Institut für Ost- und Südosteuropaforschung (IOS) in Regensburg ist die Nachfolgeeinrichtung des Südost-Instituts. 90 Jahre später erinnert das IOS an seinen Geburtsmoment. Inhaltlicher Schwerpunkt der Festveranstaltung ist die Geschichte der Südosteuropaforschung in Deutschland, für die das Südost-Institut und seine Entwicklung exemplarisch stehen.
