How can cities prepare for natural phenomena such as heavy rainfall or periods of drought? How does climate change affect the urban water balance and water quality? With the digital conference, the Morgenstadt network wants to contribute to networking and knowledge exchange between municipal partners and science on the topic of urban neighborhoods as a level of action for urban climate adaptation and improved resource efficiency. The focus is on urban water management as a crucial building block of a future-oriented and climate-adapted city.
Natural phenomena such as heavy rainfall or prolonged droughts are still rare catastrophes. But with climate change, such scenarios are increasingly impacting the urban water balance and water quality, confronting cities with new challenges. Therefore, active urban water management in particular plays a crucial role in climate adaptation strategies for the development of future-oriented climate-adapted cities. The digital conference "Water in the City of the Future" addresses the mentioned problems in the form of different lectures, workshops as well as practical examples.
On the first day of the conference, the transformation potentials within (waste) water management as well as the role of "green" and "blue" infrastructures in climate-adapted urban development will be presented within three different keynote speeches. In the following workshops, participants will be able to discuss together how to accelerate the implementation of innovations in urban neighborhoods. On the second conference day, national and international good practice examples in the implementation of climate adaptation measures will be presented as well as a tool for the successful planning and implementation of climate protection measures.
The two conference days will be concluded by a digital excursion to practical examples in the afternoon: Implementation of climate adaptation measures using the example of the Hamburg district Jenfeld on the first day and the green roof strategy of the residential quarter "Am Weißenberg" in Hamburg on the second day.
The Morgenstadt network of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft aims to network interested participants on the topic of water management and to promote possible cooperations. In addition, the Morgenstadt conference aims to initiate concrete new projects in the field of climate-adapted water management.
