High entropy alloys (HEA) are a group of novel metallic materials that offer superior mechanical and functional performance and display huge potentials for future applications especially at high operating temperatures. Fundamental investigations on this group of alloys revealed a variety of outstanding properties such as a high strength and wear resistance as well as a high resistance against corrosion and oxidation. Due to these exciting properties HEA will enable new high performance products in applications like aerospace, energy, tool making and different fields of engineering.
Major challenges for the industrial application of HEA are currently material availability, material synthesis and processing routes. Moreover, due to an almost infinite variety of possible material compositions alloy identification is a challenging task. For these reasons HEA have been exclusively processed in small quantities and at a laboratory scale. Additive manufacturing and coating technologies serve as powerful tools for the development and synthesis of HEA.
Key topics
The symposium will provide insight into the international state of the art of research and development on HEA. It will present fundamental findings as well as potentials of these alloys for future applications. A major goal is to give an inside into the possibilities and challenges of the industrialization of HEA to potential users. The event will especially focus on the following aspects:
- Properties and potential applications of HEAs
- Requirements for new high temperature materials: mechanical properties, oxidation resistance
- Corrosion and wear protection of tools
- Synthesis of HEAs by means of casting, additive manufacturing as well as coating technologies
- HEA processing, feedstock and semi-finished products
- Screening tools for material design and development: synthesis, characterization and thermodynamic modelling
For your benefit and convenience our symposium is embedded in the conference “Werkstoffe & Additive Fertigung” (May 11–13, 2022), organized as a hybrid event by DGM – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Materialkunde. This gives you the opportunity to expand your knowledge in the field of additive manufacturing and to network with the rapidly growing AM community.
We are looking forward to your participation and the lively exchange of experiences on the potentials and future applications of HEA.
Why you should attend
- Identify the unique potential and key enablers of next generation HEA
- Receive recommendations towards the industrial implementation of HEA
- Benefit from the integration in the DGM conference on Materials and...

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
