EMEE Final Conference from the 27th to the 29th of September 2016 in Brussels
Augsburg/Brussels/SSch – The partners of the international EU culture project “EuroVision - Museums Exhibiting Europe” are coming together for the final conference from 27th to 29th September 2016. In a public event, the outcomes of the project will be presented to experts, policy-makers and stakeholders and recommendation for future work with European cultural heritage will be given.
After almost four years of research in the field of European museum development, the project ‘EuroVision – Museums Exhibiting Europe’ (EMEE) is coming to its end in October 2016. The project, that was coordinated by the University of Augsburg (Germany), focused on history-related national and regional museums. With innovative and interdisciplinary approaches, based on Didactics of History, EMEE developed multi-perspective ideas for re-interpreting museum objects from a European angle and for engaging visitors in museums in a participative way. To mark EMEE’s closure, the final conference One Object – Many Visions – EuroVisions. New Ways for European History Museums in the 21st Century will be held in Brussels from 27th to 29th September 2016.
The public part of the final conference assembles partners, network members, experts, stakeholders and policy makers to officially conclude the EMEE project on European level. The project’s work, its outcomes and recommendations for policy-makers and stakeholders will be presented and the future development of the EMEE concepts and networks will be discussed.
On Tuesday, 27th September 2016, the exhibition of the EMEE Young Scenographers Contest – after its 7500 km long journey through Europe – will be presented in its last venue, the Parlamentarium – The European Parliament’s Visitors’ Centre.
The next day, a public lunchtime presentation will follow which presents the EMEE results to the members of the European Parliament and cultural heritage professionals. The welcome speeches are delivered by Michaela Kauer (MBA – Director Liaison Office of the City of Vienna), Irina Bokova (Director-General of UNESCO via video), Markus Ferber (Member of the European Parliament) and Prof. h.c. Dr. Hans Martin Hinz (ICOM President 2010-2016). Subsequently the keynote, held by Barbara Gessler (Head of Unit Creative Europe – Culture, Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency), reflects the EMEE project in the cultural policy of the European Union and in the ‘Creative Europe’ Programme.
This is followed by a panel discussion ‘Exhibiting Europe – Opportunities and Options’, where various internationally renowned experts will appreciate the EMEE results and discuss the future development of the EMEE concept.
The conference is kindly hosted by the Vienna Liaison Office in Brussels (Vienna House) and supported by the Bavarian Research Alliance and KoWi (European Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations). The exhibition of the EMEE Young Scenographers Contest is kindly supported by the Parlamentarium – The European Parliament’s Visitors’ Centre.

The EMEE Project
With innovative and interdisciplinary concepts based on Didactics of History, the museum project “EuroVision. Museums exhibiting Europe” (EMEE) – funded by the EU Culture Programme with 2 million euros – is intended to develop, test and evaluate multi-perspective approaches for the Europeanisation of national and regional museums. New ways of representation, scenography and possibilities to participate help the visitors to discover transnational and European perspectives. Thereby, also especially those people who usually do not go to museums shall be convinced. Therefore the project develops creative concepts for the “audience-development” and tries to assign a new role to the museum as a “social arena” within an increasingly multicultural society.
The EMEE project is coordinated by the Chair of History Didactics of the University of Augsburg. Project partners are the National Archaeology Museum in Lisbon (Portugal), the Museum of Contemporary History in Ljubljana (Slovenia), the National Historical Museum in Sofia (Bulgaria), the Roma Tre University in Rome (Italy) the University Paris-Est Crétel-ESPÉ in Paris (France), the Atelier Brückner GmbH in Stuttgart (Germany), and the art association MONOCHROM in Vienna (Austria). Apart from the project partners, further museums and partners loosely associated with the project will be present at the meeting.
