Kiel University supports “March for Science”: Kick-off event on Friday, April 13

Dr. Boris Pawlowski Presse, Kommunikation und Marketing
Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel

This year, again, a March for Science will take place in hundreds of cities worldwide. People will demonstrate to support science and science-based policy-making. CAU again supports the March for Science with a unique event, and will open the series of Marches the evening before, i.e. on Friday, April 13, at 8.00 p.m.

Everyday we experience how scientific facts are being denied, suppressed or exchanged for “alternative facts” and that science is being discredited. Such developments are dangerous for society as a whole. Therefore, in April 2017 more than one Million people all over the world stood up for the freedom of science. Kiel University (CAU) actively participated in this event. This year, again, a March for Science will take place in hundreds of cities worldwide. People will demonstrate to support science and science-based policy-making. CAU again supports the March for Science with a unique event, and will open the series of Marches the evening before, i.e. on Friday, April 13, at 8.00 p.m.

“We want to provide an open platform where students, scientists, policy makers and people from the street, can exchange views about the role and responsibility of science and scientists. This year we will focus on the topic Diesel scandal, car pollution, driving restrictions – what are the facts?”, says Professor Michael Bonitz, organizer of the event in Kiel. After short talks and a discussion in the Audimax of the university, “Project Lighthouse”, the LED-Light art project of CAU students, will present a unique light show devoted to the theme “Science not silence”. “The university senate supports the ‚March for Science‘ and invites scientists and students of CAU and all other universities and colleges of the State to actively participate”, says the chairman of the Academic Senate of CAU, Professor Ulrich Lüning.
