Comprehensible software and frustrated magnets: DFG funds two Collaborative Research Centres at TUD

Kim-Astrid Magister Pressestelle
Technische Universität Dresden

TU Dresden was also successful in the current funding decision for Collaborative Research Centres (SFB) of the German Research Foundation (DFG). A new unit in the area of informatics and the continuation of the Collaborative Research Centre in the area of theoretical physics were approved.

The Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 248 "Fundamentals of Comprehensible Software Systems" will be newly established. Scientists from TU Dresden, Saarland University and the Max Planck Institutes for Informatics (MPI-INF) and Software Systems (MPI-SWS) are conducting joint research on the scientific basis for computer-aided systems of the future, which explain the functionality and properties themselves. In the future, it will be possible to create software-based systems that operate predictably and clearly. This will serve society’s growing need to maintain control over the computerised systems with which we interact on a daily basis and will enable an understandable cyber-physical world.

The Collaborative Research Centre 1143 "Correlated Magnetism: From Frustration to Topology" will receive funding for a further four years. The core topics are unusual magnets in which "frustration" occurs, i.e. where the interactions of magnetic building blocks are incompatible with each other. This phenomenon often leads to new states of matter that are fundamentally different from those of ordinary magnets. The objectives of the Collaborative Research Centre are to find and synthesise suitable materials, to investigate them, to understand their properties and to develop possible application concepts.

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
