Hannover Messe: »International Data Space«-Architecture implemented in first digital ecosystems

Digital Economy: Supply chains of fragile goods monitored sovereignly / Deutsche Telekom shows innovative platform for save data exchange

From 1 to 5 April 2019, the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engi-neering ISST presents the first implementation based upon the reference archi-tecture of the »International Data Space« at Hannover Tradefair, in Hall 2, Booth C22.
Deutsche Telekom is one of first telecommunication companies, implementing this architecture within corporate reality.
Taking the example of glass bottles, Telekom will show, how differently rated data of the supply chain can be analysed comprehensively.

The here demonstrated data ecosystem consists of the Telekom Data Intelligence Hub, the Low-Cost-Tracker and the first ever connector of the International Data Space Associ-ation, called »IDS ready«. This Connector is dedicated to a safe and sovereign data exchange via the International Data Space architecture.

A glass manufacturer, for example, produces bottles on behalf of a juice manufacturer. Even during production, a wide range of data is generated, making it possible to make statements about the quality of the product. Further data is generated, while the glass bottles are transported on pallets. On their way to the botteling plant, the bottles spend several kilometers on a truck, train or ship: Deutsche Telekom's low-cost tracker can determine the position of the pallet, as well as the movement, shock effects and tem-perature profiles. The waterproof sensor registers impacts, position, tilt angles, accelera-tions and temperature of the pallet. In addition, data is generated at the bottling plant.

All data, from production, over delivery, and all the way to ready-for-sale products, are provided sovereignly for the data ecosystem, using the International Data Space (IDS) infrastructure. This is where the Connector of the Telekom Data Hub is applied.
Within our use case, the Data Intelligence Hub is first used for data fusion, taking in data from all participating industries, which is then, in step two, followed by data analy-sis. For this, the platform uses an AI-Workshop combining different tools for analysis, that are, of course, all in compliance with the Telekom AI-directive.

The operator of the botteling plant receives the, by AI analysed, results of the bottle production as well as information on the whereabouts of his order. The bottle producer will receive this and further usage-data made available by the botteling plant operator, as well. This way, he will be able to further optimize his own product. The logistics ser-vice provider obtains reports on his loading and unloading times, making it possible for him to react dynamicly, according to status updates. In case of damages to the bottles or delays within production or supply chains, any involved company will be able to act much faster and much more precisely. The IDS infrastructure, thus eases and enables »just-in-time« reactions, as well as a transparency of all processes.

Who may use or access what data is regulated by the IDS-Architecture: This architec-ture, developed by Fraunhofer under the management of Fraunhofer ISST, establishes a framework which enables the data-owning Company to exchange data with other com-panies, whilst still always keeping control over distribution as well as usage of said data. The IDS framework creates real data sovereignty within an industrial context and serves as a key component of a data infrastructure in and for Europe.
Telekom uses the reference architecture oft he IDS as an innovative platform for safe and efficient data exchange. During the processing and analysing of data the focus is on innovative, data-driven services and applications based around machine learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The International Data Spaces Initiative makes open data market places possible for the economy. Via these marketplaces data can be exchanged between trustworthy partners. Data Sovereignty of all parties is always ensured throughout the complete data value chain. The International Data Space is part of a safe data infrastructure and thus a key technology for innovative applications of Artificial Intelligence. It thus contributes to economy’s competitiveness as well as society’s prosperity. As an important component of digital infrastructure, the IDS aides to exploit chances AI offers for the well-being of humanity and companies, as well as encountering risks.

Next to concrete Industry examples, Fraunhofer ISST is showing it’s service portfolio on building such data infrastructures of cataloguing existing data (»Digital Cleanup«), defin-ing data-driven processes and new business models (»Digital Company«) as far as digi-tally linking companies with each other as well as building multilateral partnerships (»Digital Ecosystem«). The Institute will further inform about potentials of the Interna-tional Data Space for sovereignly exchanging data within other use cases.

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
