The EU-project EMEE calls for young scenographers to participate in the Young Scenographers Contest: Application deadline is November 28th 2014.

Augsburg/SSch/KPP – The Young Scenographers Contest promises a new perspective on European cultural artifacts. It is being launched as part of the EU-project "EuroVision - Museums Exhibiting Europe" (EMEE), which is coordinated by Augsburg University. The contest is aimed at young scenographers, who are still studying or have already started entry into professional life. They are invited to rethink museum objects in the European context and restage them in a mulitperspective way.

“We are looking forward to a large number of entries by young colleagues, because especially their new perception and approach have the potential to open new doors,” says Prof. Uwe R. Brückner, creative director of Atelier Brückner. The Stuttgart office for exhibition design and scenography is a member of the EMEE project and have been entrusted with planning and organizing the contest.

Introductory symposium on October 31st in Stuttgart

During the symposium at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design (Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart) on October 31st, four money prizes will be given. Here, both the EMEE research project as well as the contest will be presented. Applications to participate in the contest will be accepted until November 28th 2014, the designs themselves can be submitted until January 30th 2015. The ceremony to present the prizes will take place in Graz on May 7th 2015, as part of the “Designmonat Graz”. This Event is followed by a travelling exhibition, which will tour through Europe until June 2016.

Project partners from seven different countries

EMEE is a four-year European project for the development of national and regional museums and is being sponsored by the European Union with around 2 million euros. It is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Susanne Popp, Chair of history didactics at Augsburg University. The project partners are the University Paris-Est Créteil in France, the University Roma Tre in Italy, the National Museum of History in Sofia, Bulgaria, the National Museum of Archaeology in Lisbon, Portugal, the National Museum of Contemporary History in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the monochrom Kunstverein in Vienna, Austria and the Atelier Brückner in Stuttgart, Germany.

Making active participation possible for the visitors

“Together we are working on innovative concepts, which aim at exploring the significance of museum items in their European relevance and making them more attractive to visitors. We also want to give the visitors the opportunity to actively participate,” says project coordinator Prof. Dr. Susanne Popp.
