Panel discussion at the GFFA 2020 in Berlin
In the scope of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) in Berlin, Germany, IAMO is co-operating with the German Agribusiness Alliance at the German Eastern Business Association and the Sino-German Agricultural Center to stage a panel discussion on the subject of “Conducting trade, delivering trust: Quality and transparency in the international agricultural trade with Eastern Europe and Asia“. International guests from the fields of politics, business and science are expected to attend, interacting on the challenges of the international agricultural trade with Eastern Europe and Asia. The event will take place in the CityCube Berlin (Level 3) on 17 January 2020, in the time from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
Globalisation has had a particular effect on intensifying the exchange of goods between countries since the turn of the millennium. The trade in agricultural goods has grown enormously between the regions of Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Asia especially. A quarter of worldwide agricultural trade is conducted in these regions.
Access to suitable means of production and know-how, the observance of required quality standards and the further development and transparency of supply chains often still present major challenges for producers in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and China.
The goal of the GFFA panel discussion is to join with representatives from the fields of politics, business and science to discuss the integration of these agricultural producers, identify existing obstacles to implementation and discuss trends in the international agricultural trade.

About IAMO
The Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) analyses economic, social and political processes of change in the agricultural and food sector, and in rural areas. The geographic focus covers the enlarging EU, transition regions of Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe, as well as Central and Eastern Asia. IAMO works to enhance the understanding of institutional, structural and technological changes. Moreover, IAMO studies the resulting impacts on the agricultural and food sector as well as the living conditions of rural populations. The outcomes of our work are used to derive and analyze strategies and options for enterprises, agricultural markets and politics. Since its founding in 1994, IAMO has been part of the Leibniz Association, a German community of independent research institutes.
