Journalists invited to cover networking conference of mathematicians and computer scientists in Heidelberg!

Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation

This September 20-25, recipients of the Abel Prize, ACM A.M. Turing Award, ACM Prize in Computing, Fields Medal, and the Nevanlinna Prize are invited to gather in Heidelberg to meet with 200 young researchers from all over the world at the 8th Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF). In order to reach a broader, more international audience, the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) provides a limited number of travel grants for journalists to cover the event, creating a space to interact with prominent scientists of mathematics and computer science. Applications for the travel grants are accepted until May 4, 2020.

The HLF is an annual networking event where 200 carefully selected young researchers in mathematics and computer science have the unique chance to meet distinguished scientists in their fields for one week of interdisciplinary academic dialogue. A vibrant atmosphere inspires a blend of acute scientific discussions and informal interactions among the participants, setting the HLF apart from traditional conferences. Lectures, workshops and panel discussions spur scientifically driven debate, which is then balanced by various social events permitting participants to pursue their discourse in an inviting environment.

Particularly relevant for interested journalists is the Hot Topic session, which centers on a theme that is highly consequential, not only for science but for society as a whole. At the 8th HLF, a panel of experts from various specializations will discuss eHealth, plus the inherent advantages and vulnerabilities.

Until May 4, 2020, journalists from all over the world are invited to apply on the online tool, irrespective of their media affiliation (print, TV, online, radio). The applications must include a short CV, three samples of work (indicating respective medium), an overview of publications (indicating respective medium) and planned contributions regarding the HLF.

After carefully evaluating each application, the HLFF offers a limited number of travel grants to enable journalists to report on this compelling networking event. Grants cover travel costs as well as board and accommodation during the stay in Heidelberg from September 19-26, 2020.

Apply for a travel grant here: application.heidelberg-laureate-forum.org
    Application deadline: May 4, 2020

All journalists who wish to cover the 8th HLF, including those who do not apply for a travel grant must register via the online tool linked above.

    Background
The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) annually organizes the Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), which is a networking event for mathematicians and computer scientists from all over the world. The 8th Heidelberg Laureate Forum will take place from September 20 to 25, 2020. The HLFF was established and is funded by the German foundation Klaus Tschira Stiftung (KTS), which promotes natural sciences, mathematics and computer science. The scientific partners of the HLFF are the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) and Heidelberg University. The HLF is strongly supported by the award-granting institutions, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the International Mathematical Union (IMU), and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (DNVA).

    Hilfe
