Das POMPEII SUSTAINABLE PRESERVATION PROJECT (PSPP) ist ein auf Fundraising basierendes Vorhaben. Direktes Sponsoring ist notwendig, um die Fördergelder unmittelbar der Forschung und Erhaltung von Pompeji zukommen zu lassen.
Mit dem konventionellen Weg der öffentlich geförderten Forschung ist das Projekt gerade wegen des neuen Ansatzes der Kombination von Restaurierungspraxis, Wissenschaft und Lehre nicht umsetzbar. Daher startet das Fraunhofer-Institut für Bauphysik IBP gemeinsam mit seinen Projektpartnern einen Spendenaufruf, um weiter für die Erhaltung von Pompeji arbeiten und forschen zu können.
