BIH congratulates the successful Berlin University Alliance and looks forward to the collaboration

Dr. Stefanie Seltmann Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
Berliner Institut für Gesundheitsforschung / Berlin Institute of Health (BIH)

The Berlin University Alliance, a consortium of three major Berlin universities and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, is dedicated to producing research of the highest quality. The research findings made within the Alliance aim to provide maximum benefit and thus increase public trust in science.

In the Berlin University Alliance’s successful application in the German Excellence Strategy competition, the BIH QUEST Center co-wrote the section on quality and value of research. Together with the university partners, the QUEST Center at the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) will play an important role in ensuring the quality and value of research conducted within the Berlin University Alliance.

The BIH QUEST Center has already developed structures and established measures to improve the quality and value of biomedical research being carried out at the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC). For example, the BIH QUEST Center recently rewarded, for the first time, scientists at Charité and the MDC with the Open Data Award (https://www.bihealth.org/de/aktuell/bih-belohnt-offene-daten-wege-zu-einer-nachv...) for disclosing the original data of their publications. This is so important because freely accessible original data allows other scientists to check and verify that published results are in fact substantiated by the data collected. This original open data can also be used to answer further research questions.

In addition, the BIH QUEST Center recently named John Ioannidis from Stanford University as an Einstein BIH Visiting Fellow. Professor Ioannidis, one of the most highly cited scientists worldwide, has established the Meta-Research Innovation Center Berlin (METRIC-Berlin) at the BIH. This institute is also committed to increasing the quality of biomedical research.

“We will therefore provide the Berlin University Alliance with advice and support on issues relating to quality of research, because our methods and measures could also lend important momentum to other scientific fields,” says Ulrich Dirnagl, head of the BIH QUEST Center. “For it is, of course, essential that research carried out at an excellent university be of the highest quality and value. We want to help make this possible.

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
