Universität Mannheim

On August 1, Economics Professor Michèle Tertilt from the University of Mannheim was appointed Joint Managing Editor of the widely renowned quarterly journal The Review of Economic Studies.

Tertilt is now one of seven managing editors who decide which of the more than 1400 annual submissions gets published. The appointment of Prof. Tertilt marks the first time that an economist working in Germany holds a position as a Joint Managing Editor at the Review. Further, she will be the first woman among the Joint Managing Editors since the founding of the journal in 1933.

The Review of Economic Studies has consistently ranked among the five most important peer reviewed journals in economics. It publishes articles from all areas of economics. Historically, many influential articles came from the fields of microeconomics, economic theory, and econometrics. More recently, the coverage of fields like macroeconomics, applied economics, and experimental economics has been growing. The journal strives to provide a timely and high quality review process to all authors despite the constantly increasing number of submissions. Former members of the editorial board include a number of Nobel Prize winners. For example, John R. Hicks was a founding member of The Review of Economic Studies.

Michèle Tertilt has been a Professor of economics at the University of Mannheim since 2010. Her research concentrates on macroeconomics with a special focus on development and family economics. She has also written several articles about consumer credit and bankruptcies. After studying economics at the University of Bielefeld, Prof. Tertilt obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. She continued her career with a position as Assistant Professor at Stanford University. Michèle Tertilt is currently a Research Affiliate at BREAD and CEPR and a Faculty Research Fellow at the NBER. In 2012 she received a five-year starting grant from the European Research Council (ERC).
