For Alexander von Humboldt‘s 250th birthday the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) invites everyone to join in the campaign #WIRSINDHUMBOLDT (#WEAREHUMBOLDT).
This year Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin celebrates Alexander von Humboldt’s 250th birthday with many events and specials together with the whole Humboldt Family.
The Humboldt Family is everyone who is or was as student, for one semester or the whole life, and works or worked as a scientist or employee at HU. Also friends, donors and fans as well as partners from the scientific community and society are part of the family.
Everyone who wants to participate can upload a photo
On the website www.wirsindhumboldt.de participants can upload their picture using the “photo booth”, choose one of four motives drawn by Alexander – e.g. three-striped night monkey – and then pick one of ten Humboldtian attributes - from adventurer to world surveyor.
Everyone participating will be published in the #WIRSINDHUMBOLDT Gallery as well be represented on the world map as a little flag. Thus over the year a platform develops on which the whole Humboldt Family can reconnect and follow Humboldt’s footsteps.
Furthermore for Alexander’s 250th birthday HU is asking for gifts for Humboldt’s heirs - the students of HU - and is looking for donors for the Humboldt-Scholarships. Only due to his mother’s heritage and generous donations of his patrons Alexander was able to become the scientist who we celebrate this year and whose findings shape science even today.
