In a move designed to make it easier to implement industrial automation solutions, Siemens has substantially enlarged its engineering environment in this field. The Totally Integrated Automation Portal (TIA Portal) provides a uniform platform that obviates the need for individual interfaces for different engineering systems. This feature simplifies the job of developers working on automation and drive solutions. Using Version 12, it is now possible to automate Siemens industrial drives in a rapid and efficient manner. For example, the error and system diagnostics have not only been fully integrated in the TIA Portal in a user-friendly way but has also been given a uniform appearance throughout the whole system. Furthermore, an additional security level offers protection against unauthorized changes. The TIA Portal V12 will be on the market in the near future.
To date, developers involved in planning production facilities have to use different software tools in order to control machinery, robots, and motors. As a result, they have to familiarize themselves with diverse software packages, enter any design changes into each program, and ensure that there are no discrepancies. This means a lot of work, not least because the variety in the different types of machinery continues to increase. By contrast, the TIA Portal creates a uniform environment for the engineering of all automation solutions and thereby reduces engineering time, effort, and costs.
A planning system for the automation of Sinamics G drives, which are typically found in pumps, elevators, or grinding systems, has also been integrated in the TIA Portal. The system diagnostics is also now fully integrated in the TIA Portal and can therefore be activated by a mere mouse-click, rather than having to be manually entered, as was previously the case. Furthermore, error messages are identical on all user interfaces, web servers, and controllers. The TIA Portal also offers error-proof functions for industrial drives.
The combination of the TIA Portal with the new controller generation adds even more functions to the engineering environment. With regard to data security, the system is even better protected against the piracy of machinery and unauthorized access. Last but not least, the programming languages are not only compatible with the previous version but are also more efficient.
