Space Shack: expansive and affordable co-working space opens in Berlin-Schöneberg

European School of Management and Technology (ESMT)

    - Newly established 3500-square-meter co-working space supported by Pühringer Group and ESMT Berlin
    - Co-founded by two ESMT MBA alumni

Space Shack, a 3500-square-meter co-working space supported by ESMT Berlin, is celebrating its inauguration in Berlin-Schöneberg today. Located on a site provided by the Pühringer Group, Space Shack is one of the largest co-working spaces in Germany. It offers a great variety of different types of working areas, starting at a discount from 116 EUR per month until the end of March. Co-founders and management team of the new company are Daria Markova and Niels Madsen, who received an MBA degree from ESMT in 2014, as well as Maksim Aizikovitch. Clients of the new co-working space are international and diverse. As part of the cooperation with Space Shack, ESMT students will be able to use a contingent of co-working spaces, fostering entrepreneurship among ESMT students as they have the opportunity to apply what they have learned in class and to network with other members of Space Shack.

Space Shack connects members to service providers for areas such as accounting, marketing, development, and legal so that businesses can focus on their main priorities. Co-founder Daria Markova said, “We believe that those who are insanely focused on their projects make the biggest change. We want to help them to overcome everyday distractions and information overload, so we have created a space that gives them precise support. There is also a variety of areas, each designed for a certain purpose including quiet work, business meetings, discussions, and interacting with strangers.” Moreover, the co-working space serves as a multi-functional event venue and hosts expert events for highly specialized communities, covering technology topics such as virtual reality and digital security.

With Space Shack, the German Tech Entrepreneurship Center (GTEC), the first private-sector, open campus for entrepreneurship in Europe, co-founded and hosted by ESMT, is expanding its Lab program by offering its international, later-stage startups a place to work and grow. GTEC startups have this opportunity free of charge in exchange for engaging and collaborating with the Space Shack community. The partnership allows GTEC to continue promoting entrepreneurship on an even larger scale through executive education programs or the unique and numerous meetups dedicated to connecting startups with corporations and academia.

At today’s inaugural event, Space Shack is bringing together multifaceted startups from areas such as fintech, education, digital, and art, as well as experts speaking on virtual reality, space and satellites, and brain optimization with hardware. The event will end with a light reception and live music, such as synthpop by SPT, a one-man music-machine.
