Involvement in the leading Indian "3rd Smart Cities India" trade fair marks the third stage of the international BMBF campaign "Shaping the Future – Building the City of Tomorrow". Five German research networks are in India seeking international partners for sustainable urban development projects.
New Delhi, 10 May 2017
Five German research networks under the international BMBF campaign "Shaping the Future – Building the City of Tomorrow" are in New Delhi from 10 to 12 May 2017 at the "3rd Smart Cities India" trade fair with customised offers to obtain international partners for joint urban development projects.
The research and developments projects of these German networks are targeted at making life in Asian cities more worthwhile, with sustainable and efficient development, and thus also making them cleaner and healthier. Innovative system solutions are being offered, e.g. for improved energy and resource efficiency and for increased acceptance of urban changes through integrative planning.
Huge demands in the case of sustainable urban development in India
The demands in the case of sustainable urban development in India are huge. India will replace China as the most populated country in the world by 2030. Even today, the infrastructure in Indian cities is inadequate to sufficiently supply the growing city populations and to overcome environmental pollution due to smog, sewage and waste. At the same time, the consumer behaviour of the cities and the need for energy and new living space are also increasing.
Germany is seen by India as a preferred partner in sustainable city development, which is supported by the Narendra Modi government with almost 15 billion euros under various priority programmes like the "100 Smart Cities Mission" and "AMRUT".
Third stage of the campaign "Shaping the Future – Building the City of Tomorrow"
Participation in the 3rd Smart Cities India trade fair is the third stage of the current Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) international research marketing campaign "Shaping the Future – Building the City of Tomorrow". It provides 10 excellent research networks with a platform to present their innovative projects for sustainable urban development abroad and to link up globally with strong partners.
International networks have already been established at the German Science Day in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and at America's leading trade fair "Smart Cities NYC 17" in New York, USA. Further activities are planned in China, India, USA, Vietnam and Columbia.
Research in Germany – Land of Ideas
The campaign is part of the BMBF’s Research Marketing Alliance and is firmly embedded as an important measure in the Federal Government’s Internationalization Strategy. The aim is to further enhance Germany’s reputation as an attractive country for education, research and innovation under the heading "Research in Germany" and to highlight opportunities for partners abroad to access Germany’s strong research base. The DLR Project Management Agency manages the international campaign on behalf of the BMBF.
