More than 600 participants expected at symposium “Kraftwerk Batterie” in Münster

    The symposium Advanced Battery Power takes place at “Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland” on 10 and 11 April 2018. Among the organisers is the MEET Battery Research Center of the University of Münster.

    Researchers of the University of Münster will be hosting a symposium on “Advanced Battery Power” at the Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland on 10 and 11 April 2018. The MEET Battery Research Center of the University of Münster will stage the international event in cooperation with Haus der Technik (Essen), the Helmholtz-Institute Münster (Forschungszentrum Jülich) and the Institute for Power Electronics and Electric Drives (ISEA) of the RWTH Aachen University. The conference is open to all participants interested in the research, development and application of batteries. Münster and Aachen have taken turns hosting the conference since 2009.

    More than 600 guests from all over the world are expected to attend the English-language conference. There they will have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the latest advances in battery research and application. Some of the brightest minds in the field will provide insights on energy storage solutions and discuss fields of application, innovative materials and new battery systems. For example, the conference has invited Prof. Dr. Stanley Whittingham to speak, an internationally renowned chemist known for his pioneering contributions in the development of lithium ion batteries.

    The conference programme includes more than 60 lectures and 170 poster presentations. In addition to highlighting the current use of established technologies, the researchers will also introduce their findings on new-generation batteries, such as the lithium sulphur battery. “The advances we’ve achieved in battery research in just one year can fill entire books. It reads like a thrilling novel which will be presented to audiences at the Kraftwerk Batterie conference,” says Prof. Dr. Martin Winter (MEET Battery Research Center and Helmholtz-Institute Münster). Martin Winter is jointly responsible for directing the “Advanced Battery Power Conference” together with Prof. Dr. Dirk Uwe Sauer (ISEA) and a 30-member scientific advisory council.

    Dirk Uwe Sauer is very much looking forward to the conference as well. Technological advances in lithium ion batteries in connection with massive price cuts have opened an array of new fields of application. “An incredible dynamic has evolved thanks to the rapidly increasing activities in the automotive industry. Our conference will allow this fast-growing community of professionals to share their experience and expertise,” he says.

    Prior to the conference on 9 April, the “Battery Day NRW” event will be staged at the Messe und Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland. “Battery Day NRW” is organised by Haus der Technik in cooperation with the research clusters EnergieForschung.NRW, EnergieRegion.NRW and NanoMikroWerkstoffe.NRW.
