It is the oldest association of psychologists in the world: the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) was founded in 1920. At its international conference, which takes place just once every four years, health psychologist Professor Dr. Sonia Lippke from Jacobs University Bremen took office as President of the Health Psychology Division a few days ago.
The IAAP is organized in 18 sub-disciplines for the individual disciplines of psychology. The organization has around 1,500 members from 50 countries worldwide. It promotes worldwide dialog between psychologists and also publishes the renowned journals “Applied Psychology: An International Review” and “Applied Psychology: Health Well-Being”. Prof. Lippke has been associate editor of the latter for many years.
Sonia Lippke’s main areas of teaching and research at Jacobs University are health psychology and behavioral medicine. With her research, she aims to improve health and health behavior and thus also contribute to greater well-being and life satisfaction in society.
During her time as President, she has set herself the task of strengthening the dialog between the individual sub-disciplines and intensifying international and interdisciplinary cooperation. She made her debut in her new position with a keynote speech on a highly topical topic during the congress: “Health psychology in times of globalization and migration: state of the science and future directions.”
