Invitation to interdisciplinary symposium on 8 October 2018
The interdisciplinary symposium “Tracking Life” will take place at the RWTH Aachen on 8 October 2018. The range of topics will cover all scales of life: from individual molecules all the way to entire organisms. The symposium does not only target researchers from fields such as biology, medicine or biophysics, but is open to scholars from other disciplines as well as those from outside academia with an interest in these topics.
The event is being organised by Ulrike Endesfelder (Single-Molecule Microbiology Group, Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology & LOEWE Center for Synthetic Microbiology; member of Die Junge Akademie), Mangala Srinivas (Multiscale Imaging Group, Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences RIMLS; member of the Young Academy of Europe), and Markus Rothermel (DFG Emmy Noether Group Neuromodulation; RWTH Aachen University; member of the Young Academy of Europe).
The keynote speeches will be presented by Fritjof Helmchen (Brain Research Institute, University of Zürich), Daniel Razansky (Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging, Helmholtz Zentrum München) und Steven Lee (Department of Chemistry, Cambridge University). They will address the possibilities offered by modern microscopy for the life sciences and will discuss their current research endeavours in neurobiology and preclinical application. The symposium will consider forms of life on a broad scale, ranging from organisms which measure mere millimetres in their entirety to micrometre-sized nerve cell bundles to the microscopy of individual, nanometre-sized molecules.
Abstracts for additional presentations are still being accepted. The deadline for abstracts is 31 August 2018.
