The conference between 16th and 18th of January takes place at Hochschule Landshut and will bring together a highly selective group of presenters from various European countries (Austria, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Lithuania, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, UK), China and the US to share their cutting-edge research on the care practices of fathers from an international perspective.
The symposium focuses on the interplay of fathers' everyday care-practices, gender-specific welfare state structures, and specific policies targeted at fathers. The sessions will emphasize the influence of policies, diverse family forms, and critical life events on the engagement of fathers in different national contexts. Speakers will be invited from Austria, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Lithuania, Spain and the United States.
The goals of the conference also include initiating an international research network to further the exchange of ideas and recent research in the field of father-related research and to encourage cross-national collaborations. The conference will facilitate these aims by gathering researchers with expertise in fatherhood research and including generous time-slots for discussions of the presentations in specific reflecting groups (smaller discussion groups of researchers with corresponding research backgrounds). In addition, the final session on Saturday is dedicated exclusively to presenters and attendees who are interested in participating in the international research network on fathering research to discuss mutual interests and potential future collaborations in research projects and publications.
The conference will be organized in cooperation by Prof. Dr. Barbara Thiessen, HAW Landshut (FRG), Kathrin Peltz, HAW Landshut (FRG), Prof. Dr. Marina Adler, University of Maryland (USA), Prof. Dr. Karl Lenz, Technical University Dresden (FRG), Dr. Tino Schlinzig, Technical University Dresden (FRG), Dr. Claudia Zerle-Elsäßer, German Youth Institute (FRG) and is funded by the DFG.
