The Society of Invertebrate Pathology (SIP) was foundet 1967 as an interdisciplinary scientific society. The annual meetings take place all over the world (e.g. 2013 Pittsburgh, USA; 2012 Buenos Aires). 2014 the Julius Kühn Institute (JKI) has the pleasure to invite scientists all over the world to the medieval town Mainz (near Frankfurt) where the lectures will take place at the Johannes Gutenberg University which was founded in 1477.

In der Woche vom 4. bis 8. August 2014 veranstaltet der Fachbereich Gesundheit & Soziales der Hochschule Fresenius für Interessenten an der Gebärdensprache die „Idsteiner Sommerakademie“. Initiatorin der Veranstaltung ist Prof. Dr. Carla Wegener, Studiendekanin für den Master-Studiengang Gebärdensprachdolmetschen an der Hochschule. Es ist bereits das fünfte Event dieser Art, das seit 2010 im jährlichen Rhythmus stattfindet.

Zum 1200. Todestag Karls des Großen zeigt das Römisch-Germanische Zentralmuseum eine Sonderausstellung im Museum für Antike Schiffahrt: Mittelpunkt ist ein 793 n. Chr. auf die Initiative Karls des Großen entstandener schiffbarer Kanal, der Rhein und Donau verband. Das Interessante: Die Besucher erhalten Einblicke in die Fragen und Methoden, mit denen die archäologische Forschung solch ein Bauwerk „zum Sprechen“ bringt und in der Folge auch unser Verständnis für die karolingische Zeit erweitert.
