Die Veranstaltung knüpft an das von Prof. Schmidt-Clausen gegründete PAL Symposium an, das 2003 mit über 400 internationalen Teilnehmern großes Interesse gefunden ist.
Seit dem letzten Symposium PAL 2003 hat es viele Fortschritte auf dem Gebiet des "Automotive lighting" gegeben.
Mittlerweile sind weiße LEDs in Scheinwerfern keine Seltenheit mehr und dynamische AFS ein Muss in Fahrzeugen der oberen Klasse.
Die neusten Entwicklungen werden ausführlich auf dem zweitägigen internationalen Symposium vorgestellt, das im Anschluss an die Internationalen Automobil Ausstellung (IAA) Frankfurt stattfindet.

Erstmals seit bestehen des Symposiums besteht die Möglichkeit einer Produkt- und Posterausstellung.
Das Institut für Lichttechnik der TU Darmstadt ist Mitglied bei Optence, Kompetenznetz Optische Technologien in Hessen/Rheinland Pfalz.
