The 7th International Security Forum will be run under the auspices of the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich between 26 and 28 October 2006.
The theme for the ISF is "New Risks and Threats: The Challenge of Securing State and Society", and the 120 speakers will address new threats and counter-measures, the challenge of nuclear proliferation, failed states and post-conflict reconstruction, the privatization of security, and regional security issues, incl. the future of the Middle East.
The conference will be opened by the Swiss Minister of Defence, Federal Councillor Samuel Schmid. State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr. Michael Ambühl will give the closing address.
Keynote speakers include US Senator Gary Hart, the former Coalition Provisional Authority's Regional Coordinator for South Iraq, Sir Hilary Synnott KCMG, and Dr Ron Asmus, Executive Director of the Transatlantic Center of the German Marshall Fund of the United States in Brussels. The Forum convenes biennially and is supported by the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport, and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. In addition to the Swiss Federal Government, major conference partners include the three Geneva Centres (GCSP, DCAF, GICHD), the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva (HEI), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the Partnership for Peace Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes.
