Die Sonne ist der einzige Stern, dessen Struktur und Dynamik im Detail
beobachtet werden kann. Durch Beobachtungen ihrer Oberfläche lassen sich
Rückschlüsse auf den inneren Aufbau ziehen, und die heiße äußere Atmosphäre
ist der direkten Beobachtung mit boden- oder satellitengebundenen Instrumenten
zugänglich. Während einer totalen Sonnenfinsternis wie der am 26. März dieses
Jahres ist diese Atmosphäre, die sogenannte Korona, mit bloßem Auge
sichtbar. Die dynamischen Vorgänge in der Sonnenatmosphäre können erhebliche
Auswirkungen auf technische Systeme haben und sind Gegenstand der Forschung am
AIP.
