AQUAbase Workshop on Risk Assessment of Organic Micro Pollutants in the Aquatic Environment

People are increasingly conscious of the harm that their activities can cause to the environment, and the harm to people that can result from environmental perturbation. Risk assessment is a key element to manage human activities in a way that minimises the risks of environmental damage.

While risk assessment may sometimes usefully be applied retrospectively if previously unidentified risks appear, a prospective approach to environmental protection should be the norm. The application of lab scale experiments, biotest systems and higher tier approaches proactively can be used to assess the exposure and the toxicity of man made substances. Environmental surveillance and monitoring can help to detect previously unidentified risks as well as provide a basis for forecasting future impacts.

The assessment of risks associated with the presence of especially micro pollutants in the aquatic environment, a rapidly developing field of increasing importance, will be discussed within this dedicated workshop.

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
