The IACRLRD has a long-standing history of a truly interdisciplinary discourse on leukemogenesis and cancer therapy: since its inception in 1960 (being thus one of the oldest international associations in the area of haematology and cancer), it has held bi-annual meetings.
The focus of the 2007 Symposium is the status quo and the future of targeted therapies, as they developed from basic research in leukemia to be applied also in solid tumor treatment. This symposium will become another outstanding event in the history of our association, since many important international and national opinion leaders have agreed to give a lecture. Partnership with industry is documented by four Lunch Symposia and Unrestricted Educational Grants for the remaining Symposia. There will be three sessions about recent diagnostic and therapeutic advances in chronic and acute myeloid leukaemia: two of them are organized by the European LeukemiaNet and one by the German Competence Network for Acute and Chronic Leukemias. Especially for the young scientists we offer three Meet-the-Professor Sessions and four Memorial Lectures. To foster the interaction between the participants, we arranged several "Forums Oncology", panel discussions of two opinion leaders taking place during the coffee breaks.
