On a global scale sex work and pornography, trafficking in women, forced migration, migrant housework, mail-order marriages, and "feminization of poverty" are pressing social issues. Nevertheless, our conference will investigate how these issues come forward in Europe today. The conference's aim is not to reinforce Eurocentric positioning. Taking Europe into focus derives from the following assumptions:
(1) Historical changes after 1989 had specific dynamics, different from otherglobal processes, (2) the European situation is still determinated by the antagonism between 'real' capitalism and 'real' Socialism,
(3) issues of (illegal) migration and trafficking are closely linked to the on-going reshaping of EU borders.
The purpose of the Symposium is to create a platform for visual artists, film directors, activists, sex workers, academics and media specialists. They are invited to consider sex work, migration and trafficking as these issues appear in visual representations: in contemporary art practices, such as video, photography, installation and public sculpture, in documentary and feature film and mass media.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
