Klimaschutz durch Moorschutz

Funktionsfähige Moore sind Ökosysteme, die dauerhaft Kohlenstoff binden. Seit der letzten Eiszeit haben sie der Atmosphäre weltweit ca. 550 Milliarden Tonnen Kohlen-stoff entzogen. Über den Austausch der klimarelevanten Spurengase Kohlendioxid, Methan und Lachgas nehmen die Moore an den globalen biogeochemischen Kreisläufen teil. Erste Studien weisen den naturnahen Mooren eine weitgehend klimaneutrale, den degradierten dagegen eine starke Kli-maerwärmungswirkung zu. Welche Effekte die Renaturie-rung hinsichtlich der Klimarelevanz der Moore aufweist, hängt von den Renaturierungsvarianten ab. Hier besteht noch großer Forschungsbedarf.
