Übersetzung juristischer Texte für verschiedene nationale Rechtssysteme, Erstellung von Fachwörterbüchern, Analyse von Fachkommunikation zwischen Geschäftspartnern, Fachkommunikation in der Multimedia-Ära, dies sind nur einige der sehr aktuellen Themen, die in sechs Parallelsitzungen innerhalb des Internationalen Symposiums präsentiert und diskutiert werden.
Das Symposium ist die wichtigste wissenschaftliche Veranstaltung für Forscher und Praktiker aus aller Welt im Bereich "Fachkommunikation". Hauptredner sind vier renommierte Forscher: Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Juliane House (Hamburg), Prof. Dr. Benjamin K. Tsou (Hong Kong, China), Prof. Anne de Roeck (U.K.) und Dr. Robert C. Kahlert (U.S.A).
Der Kongress wird vom Department Sprach- Literatur- und Medienwissenschaft I in Kooperation mit dem Department Informatik, Arbeitsbereich Natürlichsprachliche Systeme, organisiert.
Die Konferenz fällt in das Jahr des 65ten Geburtstages von Prof. Dr. Walther v. Hahn (Universität Hamburg) - dem Pionier der Fachsprachenforschung in Deutschland.
