Final workshop interim: INtegration in the intermodal goods Transport of non EU states: Rail, Inland/coastal waterway Modes

The further integration of the neighbourhood countries of the EU is a central challenge for the CADSES area.
Sustainable transport relations in this region are essential to connect these markets with the Single European Market. Interoperability of goods transport systems is a backbone to provide intermodal services. Partners from Germany and Austria, who are involved in the intermodal market and network development, meet with experts from Bularia, Romania, Croatia and Serbia in the interim project.
The project partners work on improvements for the cohesion of intermodal networks, actors and approaches using spatial development instruments.
They elaborate a model with IT-tools on how such a process can be integrated in national spatial development plans. The project demonstrates with selected intermodal transport chains (rail, inland waterway and harbour-hinterland) how such integration can be implemented with respect to intermodal markets and spatial development.

interim will help to overcome the existing time gap between today and the legal integration of the Candidate States by showing how such processes can be prepared and organised and by using intermodal goods transport as an example for common implementation and learning in the field of logistics.

Issue of the Final Workshop
The project is about to get finished. The Final Workshop resumes new insights gained within the scope of intermodal transport. Important project results address new liner services, strategic improvements of hinterland connectivity of harbours and the introduction of a new intermodal IT-Tool. The evaluation of effects of developed measures and a benchmarking of regional effects will also be presented in Wildau.
