Leopoldina-Meeting "News from Neurosciences"

Neurosciences is one strong field of research carried out in institutions supported by both universities located in Zurich. The scientific meeting "News from Neurosciences" will therefore focus on the state of the art of research dealing with the multiple functions of the brain. Prominent scientists working in the field will discuss important and fascinating aspects of the developing, social, emotional, plastic, and aging brain.

For many years the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina organized regular monthly public lectures in Halle (Saale), the seat of the Academy. In these lectures members report on their scientific work. They are invited to present themselves to the Academy and the interested public, and to meet other Leopoldina members. All lectures have been published in the yearbooks of the Academy. Starting in 2008, the Leopoldina Presidium will organize a limited number of monthly lectures outside the town of Halle, i.e. in institutions in which Academy members are carrying out their research. The Academy thereby wishes to establish a direct contact with universities and other research institutions and with its members as well. To this end, scientific meetings with the participation of speakers of the visited institutions will be organized.
The May lecture of the current year is the first one to be held outside Halle. In addition to the scientific meeting a meeting focussing on current visions and problems of science, and on future collaboration of research institutions with scientific academies will be held with the boards of the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ). The Leopoldina Presidium is pleased that the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the University of Zurich are the partners of this event.
The organizers welcome all collaborators of both universities located in Zurich and, in particular, all members of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina residing in Switzerland and in adjacent countries, as well students, scientists, and the interested public.
