Gibt es eine transatlantische Ostpolitik? Sollte es eine geben? Welche Rolle spielen heute die EU und USA im Raum von der Ostsee bis zum Schwarzen Meer? Wo gibt es Gemeinsamkeiten, wo knirscht es, wie verhalten sich beide Partner gegenüber Russland? Was erwarten die Länder der Region von den USA oder der EU? Ist Amerika eine europäische Macht auch im Osten des Kontinents - oder eher Störenfried? Der Vortrag bietet eine Einführung in die transatlantischen Dimensionen des neuen erweiterten Europas.
Prof. Dr. Daniel Hamilton ist Richard von Weizsäcker Professor und Direktor des Center for Transatlantic Relations an der Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies der Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. und leitet das American Consortium on EU Studies. Er diente als Unterstaatssekretär für Europa im US-Außenministerium und hat zahlreiche Bücher verfasst, u.a. "The New Eastern Europe", "The Wider Black Sea in the 21st Century" und "Jenseits von Bonn: Amerika und die Berliner Republik". Zur Zeit ist er tätig als erster Robert Bosch Foundation Senior Diplomatic Fellow im Auswärtigen Amt in Berlin.
