Die Simulation turbulenter Strömungen wird bei der Beschreibung vieler Naturprozesse und industrieller Anwendungen benötigt. Die bisher bekannten Verfahren sind allerdings eher unzureichend, dies ist beispielsweise ein Grund für ungenaue Wettervorhersagen. Auf dem Workshop "VMS 2008" werden die neuesten Erkenntnisse zur Simulation turbulenter Strömungen und verwandter Probleme präsentiert und diskutiert.
Am Workshop "VMS 2008" nehmen die international führenden Experten auf diesem Gebiet teil. Unter anderem werden die beiden Pioniere bei der Entwicklung variationeller Mehrskalenverfahren Prof. T.J.R. Hughes und Prof. J.-L. Guermond zu der Tagung erwartet.
Außerdem halten Wissenschaftler aus Frankreich, Spanien, den Niederlanden, Schweden, Tschechien und Deutschland Vorträge.
