50 years of neutron research in Berlin

In the neutron community, Berlin is known as the location of one of the leading neutron centres and stands for a wide range of instrumentation, leading extreme environment equipment and an excellent user service. This summer, 50 years will have passed since the beginning of the Berlin neutron story - in July 1958, the first research reactor at the later Hahn-Meitner-Institut became critical.

The Helmholtz Centre Berlin for Materials and Energy (a few weeks ago still called Hahn-Meitner-Institut) want to celebrate this occasion with a scientific symposium: together with Feri Mezei, Alan Tennant and Michael Steiner it will be present a timeline of research with neutrons in Berlin reaching from its beginnings to the ambitious projects of the future. Andrew Taylor, Kazuhisa Kakurai, Walter Reimers and other renowned scientists will give an overview of current developments in various fields of neutron science, instrument development and new sources. Younger researchers will have the opportunity to present their recent neutron work at a poster session.
In the evening of 14 July, we will celebrate the occasion with a dinner at the institute's restaurant.

Two more remarks for those who wonder:
In January 2009, the Hahn-Meitner-Institut will merge with BESSY to form a new centre within the Helmholtz Association. For formal reasons, the HMI had to assume the new name in 2008.
The Hahn-Meitner-Institut was founded in spring 1959. The reactor BER I became critical before the official inauguration of the institute.

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
