Im Übergang vom 18. zum 19. Jahrhundert wurde die Rede vom Sehen neu konfiguriert: Sie orientierte sich nunmehr an Blendungsbildern. Dabei kam den Augenlidern erweiterte Bedeutung zu. Ihre Rolle wurde u.a. im Bild des antiken Feldherrn Regulus erörtert. Turner hat ihn gemalt und Kleist an einer oft verkannten Stelle impliziert. Der Vortrag betrachtet das Zusammenspiel von Nachbildtheorie und Regulus-Motiv im Hinblick auf eine Ästhetik der Blendung.
Peter Bexte (*1954 in Oelde) ist Professor für Ästhetik an der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln. Seine Forschungen widmen sich schwerpunktmäßig Problemen der Wahrnehmung von Kunst. Daneben ist Professor Bexte freier Autor des FAZ-Magazins, beschäftigte sich monographisch mit der Kulturgeschichte des Computers und war Kurator in der Berliner Millenniumsausstellung "7 Hügel: Bilder und Zeichen des 21. Jahrhunderts".
