Prof. Wolff and his colleagues of the CDF invite scientist from all over the world to participate at this event and to present research findings from studies in conservation science (not restricted to the Galapagos archipelago). Abstracts for oral presentations or for a Poster presentation should be send to the CDF as soon as possible. For application details and Symposium schedule see CDF-webpage.
One keynote Speaker will be Prof. Irenäus Eibl-Eibelsfeld (Max Planck Institute for Behavioural Physiology in Seewiesen, Germany), one of the founders of the Charles Darwin Foundation 50 years ago and well known author of many books on animal and human behaviour. For many years he has been a close collaborator of Konrad Lorenz, the famous Austrian behaviourist.
Aims of the symposium are:
- to recognize and honor the scientific work of Charles Darwin, particularly in the context of creationism's challenges to the evidence for evolution;
- to review the scientific work and achievements of the CDF and its partner institutions to conserve the Galapagos Archipelago;
- to discuss the present role of science in developing a sustainable future for Galapagos and other threatened island ecosystems;
- to foster collaborations with international experts in conservation and social sciences, to the long term benefit of Galapagos;
Involved in marine and fisheries research and ecological modeling of the large Marine Reserve of Galapagos (138000km2), Prof. Wolff contributes to the sustainable management and biodiversity conservation of this unique ecosystem.
