Wars on valuable and scarce resources have been waged
centuries ago on Inca-gold in Latin America and rubber in
South-East Asia. The conflicts will get worse in this century
due to the visible shortage of oil, natural gas and uranium.
The limited reserves on gold, cobalt, daimonds and coltan
are relevant factors for civil wars.
A new public awareness on competition of food and renewable
resources production has risen. The 'tortilla crisis' in
Mexico on rising US export corn price has given a first idea
what kind of future conflicts we might have. Future worldwide
agricultural production systems have to be proofed
concerning their sustainability and competing interests
(food, fuel, renewable raw materials). Innovative renewable
energy technologies like photovoltaics have to be designed
considering the scantiness of special raw materials.
The Interdisciplinary Research Group Science, Technology
and Security (IANUS) has celebrated a 20-year research
tradition at Technische Universität Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt).
In 2009 resources conflicts will be a thematic focus
at TU Darmstadt. The International conference 'Competition
and Conflicts on Resource Use' is supported by an interdisciplinary
research fund of the chair of TU Darmstadt,
FONAS and IANUS

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
