Daniel J. Cook wurde 1968 von der Columbia University in New York City zum Doktor der Philosophie promoviert. Es folgten Stipendien der Heinrich-Hertz-Stiftung für Forschungen an der Universität Bonn und am Hegel-Archiv der Universität Bochum (1971-1972). Cook ist Professor emeritus der Philosophie am Brooklyn College der City University of New York. Zahlreiche Publikationen in vergleichender Philosophie und zur neuzeitlichen Philosophiegeschichte, vor allem zu Hegel und Leibniz, darunter die Bücher Language in the Philosophy of Hegel und (zusammen mit Henry Rosemont) G. W. Leibniz: Writings on China. Er veröffentlichte Aufsätze unter anderem in 'The Journal of the History of Philosophy', 'Philosophy and Phenomenological Research', 'Studia Leibnitiana' und 'Religious Studies'. Gegenwärtig arbeitet er als Mitherausgeber an einer englischen Edition der Korrespondenz von Leibniz mit Joachim Bouvet, dem französischen Missionar in Peking.
Eine Veranstaltung des Corpus Coranicum und der Leibniz-Edition Potsdam der Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften.
