Die Systemtheorie erhebt für sich den Anspruch universell zu sein. Niklas Luhmann selbst annnte sie eine "Supertheorie", die immer mehr Anhänger dort gewinnt, wo wissenschaftliche Objekte als Systeme untersucht werden. Die Ringvorlesung soll einen Eindruck davon vermitteln, in welchen Fachbereichen systemtheoretisch an welchen Gegenständen gearbeitet und geforscht wird. Aspekte der Systemtheorie werden im Rahmen der Vorlesung aus der Sicht der Philosophie, der Politikwissenschaft, der Rechtswissenschaft, der Literaturwissenschaft und der Linguistik betrachtet.
