On behalf of the Scientific Committee, we invite you to Idstein on June 17-19, 2010, for the 2nd International Workshop “Fluorinated Surfactants: New Developments”.
The very successful workshop in 2008 (link http://pft.fh-fresenius.de/) gave a platform for over 150 specialists all around the world. Already then the idea was born to update this workshop every two year.
Still environmental problems perceived with the ongoing use of some fluorinated surfactants exist; this workshop especially addresses new developments towards more environmentally friendly compounds. Again we want to present and discuss new developments regarding synthesis.
We allocate some more space and emphasis upon the topics of fate and the effects of fluorinated surfactants such as human exposure, toxicology, ecotoxicology, risk assessment and the needs on regulation.
We will provide an outline of analytical techniques with regard to monitor these compounds in their global distribution. Environmental persistence of perfluorinated compounds, coupled with toxic and bioaccumulative potential in some instances, has become a matter of concern. Toxicological properties of fluorinated substances are still in the process of being clarified. We will address this special question.
The outcome of research and monitoring effects developments in the field of assessment and regulation and will be discussed in detail.
Competent speakers will present their lectures in sessions with the following topics:
• Synthesis and application of new fluorinated surfactants
• Environment: Analysis and fate
• Human exposure, toxicology, ecotoxicology
• (Risk) Assessment and Regulation
These topics will be framed with an informative scientific poster session.
A final round table discussion will complete the scientific program.
The workshop will be held again at the City Hall of Idstein, Germany. It will commence on Friday, June 18 in the morning and end at June, 19 noon.
There will be a welcome reception on Thursday evening with beer and barbecue on University of Applied Sciences Fresenius, Idstein and a conference dinner at the Monastery Eberbach, Rheingau will be organized on Friday evening.
We want to encourage students to participate by offering a special reduced registration fee.
We look forward to see you in Idstein at the workshop.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
