Der Ingenieur Carl Anton Henschel gründete 1810 mit „Henschel & Sohn" ein Lokomotiv- und Maschinenbauunternehmen, das lange Zeit Weltmarktführer war und die nordhessische Region als innovativen Industriestandort umfassend prägte. Die Universität Kassel hat ihren Hauptcampus am Holländischen Platz auf dem historischen Gelände der Henschelwerke errichtet und bezieht sich in ihrer Architektur explizit noch heute auf das Industrieunternehmen.
Eine Podiumsdiskussion im Rahmen des Kolloquiums am 29. Juni ab 17:30 Uhr wird die Perspektiven Nordhessens als innovative Wachstumsregion zwischen Traditionen und Moderne thematisieren. Teilnehmer sind Jürgen Nautz, Michael Habacker, Habacker Holding GmbH & Co.KG, Düsseldorf und Claus-Peter Müller-von der Grün, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Ort: Universität Kassel, Gießhaus, Mönchebergstraße 5.
